Indigo 2 is here

October 28, 20263 minutes

Indigo 2 is out today. It’s a native Mac app that runs real Nginx, Apache, PHP, MySQL, MariaDB, Postgres, Redis and Mailpit directly on your Mac — no Docker, no virtual machines — and version 2 is the biggest step it has ever taken.

What’s new

Drop a project in, and Indigo knows what it needs. Indigo 2 recognises 17 PHP frameworks — Laravel, WordPress, Drupal, Statamic, Craft CMS, Symfony, Joomla and more — and recommends the right services and versions for each, right down to the framework version. A legacy Drupal 7 site and a fresh Drupal 11 build each get the stack they actually need. Point it at a folder and new projects become sites on their own.

Your coding agent, fully briefed. Every project gets a generated DEV-ENVIRONMENT.md describing that stack’s exact services and versions, so Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and other coding agents use the right PHP and the right database first time, instead of reaching for whatever happens to be on the system path. With a stack active in your terminal, every command — yours or your agent’s — gets that stack’s binaries.

Databases, handled. See every database across all your stacks in one place. Export one by dragging it to your Desktop. Open any of them straight into TablePlus or Sequel Ace. And MariaDB 10.11 joins the rack, with optional MySQL-compatible aliases so your existing scripts keep working.

Faster to start. Indigo 2 gets a new stack running 3.6× faster than Indigo 1, and starts existing stacks twice as fast.¹

And a lot more: a live log viewer for every service, a per-stack Quick Reference with every port and path, a browser dashboard at indigo.localhost, real config files you can browse and override, a proper CLI and HTTP API, and an interface reworked from the rack to the preferences.

The full tour, with screenshots, is on the what’s new page.

Free and Pro

The Free plan now includes every service — Redis and Mailpit included — and serves five sites and five databases. Indigo Pro has no limits, for US$84 a year.

Coming from Indigo 1

Indigo 2 installs over the top. On its first launch it snapshots your 1.x settings and stack files, then carries everything across: stacks, sites, databases and your licence. Anything you brought from v1 keeps serving, even if it’s over the Free plan’s limits. The download page has the details, including how to go back if you ever need to.

What you’ll need

Indigo 2 needs macOS 15 Sequoia or later, on an Apple-silicon Mac. On an Intel Mac or macOS 14, Indigo 1 keeps working as it does today, and your licence is valid for it.
